Portuguese Financial and Insurance Markets Regulation 

Portuguese financial and insurance markets are supervised by two National Competent Authorities.

The Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários is a public legal entity, with administrative and financial autonomy, which has the tasks of supervising and regulating the financial instruments markets as well as the agents operating within those markets and promoting investor protection. The authority also deals with: sanction breaches of the Securities Code and of supplementary legislation; preventing systemic risk; provide information and handle complaints from retail investors; mediate conflicts between entities subject to its supervision and between them and investors; assist the Government and its member responsible for ​​Finance.

Banco de Portugal

Banco de Portugal is a public-law legal person, with administrative and financial autonomy, part of the Eurosystem. The Bank has two main missions: to maintain price stability and to promote the stability of the financial system. The authority performs various functions, including monetary policy, reserve management and prudential supervision.
